The bootroom feature is a godsend for the simulation junkies. Here you can visit the trainers of your own players, see the results of training regimens, and watch them train. You can even set up your own training regime for your team, though this is a bit flaky at the moment; after I set it up, it worked, but was inconsistent. But it's full of potential; there's more than enough depth here to be interesting for those who want to make the game more realistic, yet still provide a good time of management. Of course, the fact that it's a bootroom does make it necessary to have a CD-ROM drive, and I'm yet to get a game that works with a USB port.
As for the other updates, the CM 3 team put some time into the team's ability to turn a profit, and the results are pleasing. I had to play through the game to find out, but the principle of the TPA is that when your balance sheet is in the black, you make an effort to improve the team; if the balance sheet is in the red, you cut costs. This applies even to losses -- if the team can't afford to build a new stadium, then the local council will have to pay for it. Concrete can't be built without funds (or concrete money -- if you can afford to build a stadium, you can't afford to build a stadium). In general, you have to put in a lot of work before you see your profit margin (in CM2 it could take 30 or 40 years). It's a lot better than in real life, but there's still plenty of scope for improvement. But I like the fact that the team balances their books.
If you don't like PM then you can always play CM 3 with CM 3's free transfer mode and see if you get hooked. And if you love PM then you can always use the PM engine to create transfers for CM 3!
This is a great game, and it's well worth the price. If you like PM you'll like CM 3, and if you liked PM you'll love CM 3. That's all you need to know.
CM 3 is still very much a work in progress, so you may well find it has bugs which are a little off (such as certain players' ratings not being right). There's a few bugs in the statistics, too, and a few improvements to be made. For instance, I've not yet seen player confidence ratings get updated when a player performs badly, as they should. Also, the game might have more of a stink to it if you start a game and edit your tactics after the first 10 minutes, as you now have to re-install the game from scratch every time.
