I created a program in Excel 2010 on my PC that relies on the built-in solver for Excel. I made sure it worked on both Excel 2010 and Excel 2013 for PC. I then tried to use this same program on Excel 2011, and ran into an issue.
I realized that the address it thinks the solver is at is where the solver is on my PC, but not where it is on OSX. When I search on OSX I find the solver is at /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office/Add-Ins.
Maybe not relevant anymore, but for others facing this problem. There seem to be some problems with some users using the 64bit version of office with the solver. Uninstalling this version and downgrading to the 32bit version may solve the problem.
i used to be have a similar issue that i cant find solver.xlam file, so i try to redownload solver.xlam. and it worked, originally solver.xlam is located at c:/program files/microsoft office/office15/library/SOLVER/SOLVER.XLAMif your solver.xlam is not located there, than i think its better to redownload solver.xlam and put it there
Starting with Excel 2011 Service Pack 1 (Version 14.1.0), Solver is once again bundled with Microsoft Excel for Mac. You do not have to download and install Solver from this page -- simply ensure that you have the latest update of Excel 2011 (use Help - Check for Updates on the Excel menu).
If you've previously updated to Excel 2011 Service Pack 1 and after doing this, you've also downloaded and installed the Solver package formerly available on this page, you'll be fine, but you can encounter a problem (involving which version of Solver gets loaded and used) which we can easily help you solve. Just email us at at support@solver.com.
Before you can use the Solver VBA functions in the Visual Basic Editor, you must establish a reference to the Solver add-in. In the Visual Basic Editor, with a module active, click References on the Tools menu, and then select Solver under Available References. If Solver does not appear under Available References, click Browse, and then open Solver.xlam in the \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\Library\SOLVER subfolder. The following functions can be used to control the Solver add-in from VBA. Each function corresponds to an action that you can perform interactively, through the Solver Parameters, Solver Options, and Solver Results dialog boxes of the Solver add-in.
b) Click on the Office button, then on Excel Options, then on Add-Ins, and then on the Go button at the bottom. Here you see the familiar Add-ins dialog box from earlier versions of Excel. If this is your first time to load SolverTable, you will need to click on the Browse button to find the SolverTable.xlam file. Otherwise, there should be a SolverTable item in the list of available add-ins. Just check its box, and click on OK. The advantage of this second method is that if you then close Excel and reopen it, SolverTable will open automatically. In fact, it will keep opening until you uncheck SolverTable on the Add-Ins list.
Note: In versions of SolverTable for Excel 2003 and earlier, there were two add-in files, SolverTable and SolverTable1. The Excel 2007 versions simplifies this, so that there is now only a single add-in file, SolverTable.xlam.
Everything you need is contained in thisself-extracting file: solvertable.exe. (Don't openit with the browser; save it to your disk first, and then open it bydouble-clicking on it in Windows Explorer.)
The best example of how to use Excel solver is by graphing a situation where there is a non-linear relationship between, for example, the number of salespeople in a company and the profit that they generate.
The download contains a ZIP file with the Installation package for Excel OM for Macs. Unzip the file and then run the package program. Excel OM for Macs will be installed into a folder named excelOMQMv4 into the Applications folder of your Mac. To start Excel OM/QM, open the file named excelOMQMv4.xla. Alternatively, it will be much easier to use if you make an Alias for ExcelomQMv4.xla and place the Alias on your desktop.
Add-ins are special files that provide additional functionality. After downloading an add-in file, the Add-ins Manager must be used to install it. Add-ins files have extension .xla or .xlam (for Excel 2007 and newer).
