Hot Wheels also began a short-lived line of cars based on the Disney movie E.T. (1982). These featured enlarged bodies and bright orange colored bodies. These were joined by a line of new Hot Wheels vehicles based on various DC Comics characters, with the line being sold as an eight-piece set. These included The Flash's Batswing and The Atom's Atomjet, and a Green Lantern's GL-34. These were all soft-bodied vehicles.
When DC Comics was purchased by Warner Bros. in March 1986, Mattel worked with the new ownership to create a new line of Hot Wheels vehicles based on the DC characters. This is a very good way to teach kids about drifting in a safe and controlled manner. It's very easy to modify and can be a great introduction to the drifting hobby for kids who otherwise don't know anything about it. You can't really go too wrong with this, for ages 4 and up.
