You can check multiple ports at the same time by opening multiple sessions, putting the loopback adapter on one port, and trying to type into each session. When you can see what you are typing, you know that the COM port is working and you can see which port number the physical serial port is. Close the window for the port that you just tested to speed up the testing of the remaining serial ports.
For most of these operating systems two types of driver are available: Virtual COM Port (VCP) drivers and direct (D2XX) drivers. The VCP driver emulates a standard PC serial port such that the USB device may be communicated with as a standard RS232 device. The D2XX driver allows direct access to a USB device via a DLL interface.

B): Try plugging the adapter into another USB port. The adapter should be detected and you should be automatically prompted to install the drivers. If the problem persists, plug the adapter into the USB port of another computer to verify its functionality.
There is a working driver at _id=225&pcid=41, a bit down the page listed as "DCHU (for PC Vendors)". Getting it installed is a bit tricky, it seems. What I did is this:First install the downloaded driver by unpacking the zip file and "pnputil /add-driver *.inf /subdirs /install" (the /install is probably not necessary) from the extracted "Win11_DCHU" directory. It will add the two driver packages to the driver store and tell you what oemXY.inf files it has assigned to them. Then "pnputil /enum-drivers", and in the output look for Prolific drivers other than the ones from the previous step. I had only one other entry, a "ser2pl.inf" version "09/16/2021 22.214.171.124".Disconnect the device, and "pnputil /delete-driver oemXY.inf" with the INF file you located in the previous step.Connect the device again, and it should work, at least, it does for me. The problem is probably that the non-working driver is the newest (September 2021 vs. July for the ones from the download page) and so Windows prefers it over them.
Windows 11 update loaded Prolific PL2303 driver 126.96.36.199 and when I go to device manager it says "Please install corresponding PL2303 driver to support Windows 11 and further OS" This driver does not even attempt to communicate with my X10 CM11 hooked to my serial port. I had to go to Prolific website and load their current driver 188.8.131.527. (uninstall driver first) Serial to X10 device now working fine. Don't install Windows update for Prolific or it will change it back.
It should work if it has a FTDI chipset, and will probably work if it has a Prolific chipset. Some other chipsets like the CH340 are more problematic. We would not be able to provide technical support for diagnosing problems that appear to be caused by the Insignia adapter if any arise; you would need to contact Insignia's technical support if you run into driver issues or similar problems.
Using the cables in Linux will usually not require drivers to be installed. The article on connecting a Raspberry PI board to a Linux computer using a USB to serial port converter cable shows how to connect to the cable's serial port using minicom on a Linux PC.
This device works through port emulation: when attached to the USB port on a computer, the software driverscreate an emulated RS232 port on the computer which will transparently pass data from the serial device tothe awaiting software.
The Prolific PL-2303 USB to Serial adapter is your smart and convenient accessory for connecting RS-232 serial devices to your USB-equipped Windows host computer. It offers a bridge connection with a standard DB 9-pin male serial port connector on one end and a standard Type-A USB plug connector on the other end.

Update USB to HDMI Driver Windows 11 to Fix Adapter Not WorkingHow to update USB to HDMI driver in Windows 11 to handle its adapter not working error? What are the other solutions to deal with the problem?
I have been trying to use it to control a Keithley 2401 sourcemeter after having had luck with a USB-GPIB cable and the ready-made VIs that are provided by Keithley, but unfortunately I haven't managed to replicate the results. I installed the drivers from the FTDI website and ensured the serial settings (Baud rate, etc.) match that of the VI, and the converter cable is attached to the PC via a straight-through RS232 cable. The instrument changes to REM (remote mode) when I run any of the standard VIs but the program usually throws up a 1073807339 error. I tried watching with highlight execution and the error is thrown up in the 'Initialise' VI. It also still reliably shows up as a COM port on Device Manager on Windows 10.
The underlaying VISA programming interface allows to write instrument drivers that can easily deal with GPIB, serial and VXI-11 instruments with only one version of VIs for all of them but one needs to take a few precautions during the initialisation of the connection to make this work.
The existing Keithley drivers appear to reset the termination character in the VI for serial connections only, there is no problem with GPIB. I ended up writing a new code from scratch which works without problem with the USB/Serial converter.
The adapter retains assigned serial COM port values in nonvolatile memory, allowing the same values to automatically be assigned to the adapter serial port if disconnected and reconnected, or disconnected from one USB port and installed in another.
Once you have downloaded your new driver, you'll need to install it. In Windows, use a built-in utility called Device Manager, which allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them. 2b1af7f3a8
